Mac Mini faster then my old desktop?

My old desktop is a core 2 duo 2.4GHz
4 GB Ram
350GB SATA HDD

would the mini be faster considering it's a laptop processor vs my old desktop processor?

Yes, even the 1.4ghz Mac Mini will be considerably faster than your old Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz desktop CPU.

The bottle neck on the mini is the hard drive. Opt for a Fusion Drive.

I have just replaced my 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo iMac, with 8 GB RAM and a 1 TB hard drive, with a 2014 2.6 GHz i5 mini, with 16 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD. Blackmagic Disk Speed tests indicate that both read and write speeds are about seven times faster on the mini.

I just replaced my Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4ghz, 8GB Ram, 256GB SSD Win 7 build with a 2.3ghz i7, 4GB and 1TB '12 Mac Mini.

Even after a fresh install of windows 7 on my old PC, just surfing the net on the mini is ALOT faster.

Don't be fooled by that article. All it makes visible is that Gimp is crappy software that does not use the i7 8 threads.
New mini's don't come with 8 threads no longer though

If you can find an old 2.3 quad, then put in a 256GB SSD yourself in the empty slot, and you have a monster compared to your current machine.
