hi,

i recently purchased a refurb mac mini 1.83/1gb/80gb/combo for a server in my home.

i plan on upgrading the ram to 2gb and swapping the hdd for a 500gb sata drive i currently have, and will most likely put in the a T7400 chip in it.

i plan on running a Drobo on it, currently it is packed with harddrives, i have a few usb 2.0 drives , a few firewire 400 drives also.

i want to run a webserver / FTP
it will be serving itunes collection and HDTV content.

i was wondering if anyone else has done this ?

or if it is likely this will work out easily.

i have purchased snow leopard server for it.

I, too, use mine as a file server and iTunes server. I also run PS3 Media Server on it to transcode content to my Xbox 360 so that I can view them on the TV. I have two Drobos connected to it.

Everything works quite well, however, ever since I upgraded my Mac Pro and MacBook to Snow Leopard, I have been having some slight file permissions issues that I haven't been able to fix yet. Writing and reading files to the Drobos from the Mac Pro and/or MacBook work fine. But, once the files have been written to the Drobos, I can not modify them. My temporary solution has been to set permissions to "Read & Write" for "everyone" prior to writing to the Drobos or change it on the Mac mini after it has been written. I didn't have these problems when the Mac Pro and MacBook were still running Leopard. The Mac mini is still on Tiger. For me, it's just a minor inconvenience...
