Mac Mini Flood in Refurb

I've been waiting too, but most of them are only at most $80 off of the new employee purchase prices - not a huge discount. I want to believe that we are less than a few weeks out from a new refresh at least a bump, which I hope has better graphics and specs, but is also able to have the hard drive and memory updated (which is where I am worried that the 'new' mac mini won't allow updates).
Oh well, I'll hover over the buy button for a few more minutes before I decide...
I just picked up a 2012 i7 on Amazon Marketplace for $675. Seller claims the unit is only 3 months old, but as long as it's under a year I know I can throw AppleCare on it still come out feeling pretty good about the purchase.
I have a question, if I see a refurb in apples store with a i7 and 16 GB of Ram and a 256 GB flash drive but it is a OS X Server and I don't need an OS X server...can I still use it as a regular mini (meaning one configured without a server) or will the Server one cause me problems if I don't use it as a Server?
Don't buy that one! It's a horrible value, as the non-server version of that, brand new, is only $1099. It's a weird anomaly in the Apple Store pricing, as they add the price of the SSD on top of the machine that has 2x1TB disks, but you don't get the extra disk.
As far as I know there is no issue whatsoever; with the server version you are simply getting same mini but with software already installed (note that the software is pretty inexpensive so someone wanting to use a mini as a server can buy non server model and bto / mod it to suit their needs).
That being said, I believe the server version with single SDD is not properly priced since you can bto a non server version to same specs for $$$ less! In the case of the one you are looking at, in the Canadian store the refurb is only $60 less than brand new identical bto without the software. I would suggest that you look at the fusion with 8GB if you want a better deal. I definitely do like refurb pricing on most everything else!
I honestly don't know why the server is even offered with single SSD. If there is a pair of them, which I don't believe to be the case, then pricing wouldn't be so bad but as is it seems a huge rip off.
Don't even need to do that, just delete the Server app. The base OS is no different.
The Apple Store reburb 2012 2.3 i7 costs more than B&H's new 2012 2.3 i7. Also Apple Care is cheaper at B&H than at Apple.
B&h shows 753. Apple refurb is 679. What am I missing? Pi guess no tax from b&h?
No, with a new machine, you can just delete the Server app, as there's no services running or configured.
You're not missing anything. I'm missing the ability to read accurately and perform simple arithmetic.
Why? I've bought several refurbs from Apple over the years, including a 2012 Mac mini 2.3 GHz i7, which I bought over a year ago. They're fully warrantied, they don't look "used" cosmetically, they come with all documentation and accessories, they've saved me money, and I've never had a problem with one. The only difference is that they come in a plain white box rather than the printed boxes that new ones come in. If the price on a new unit from B&H is the same as the price on a refurb from the Apple store, I'd get the new one, just for the box, but otherwise, I'd rather save money and get a refurb.
I know they will price match from some sources. When we bought our new iMac they just got online and looked it up.
Also while we're plugging B&H they usually carry most special order-only configurations and auto-enroll AppleCare is cheaper too. I paid $104 for AppleCare on my mini in January. Even MBP AppleCare is only about $180.
I've been a B&H fan for about a decade. They also carry the OWC Data Doubler kit for minis so I was able to get the mini, the Data Doubler, RAM and an SSD on the same order.
