Mac mini for media centre??

I want to get up to date and I was hoping a Mac mini would do the job, I want to do the following and would very much appreciate all your advice.

I want a media centre with large hard drive connected via hdmi to my Sony TV
I want be able to stream via wifi from my win7 laptop to the centre
I want to be able to stream from the centre to my laptop or ipad
I want a simple interface so my wife can use it

Lastly - I would be really happy if I could access it remotely from my ipad and watch films over wifi

Would the mac mini would be the best option? I can also then use it for my primary iTunes hub

All can be accomplished with the mini with the exception of the win7 laptop, I am not familiar with win7 laptops so I cannot comment on them.... I have a mini and use it the exact same way you want to. No problems and very user friendly, hope this helps.

Do I need any other equipment to play video on the mac mini via the internet from my ipad?

Not had any experience setting up a Media Center System so not sure if this app will work for streaming to and from Windows 7?
