Hi, I'm jalemany and this is my first post.
First of all, remark that that I've searched so many posts and diferents web sites but I still with the same doubt.
Now I'm on windows and I wanted to change to OSX with the new iMacs, but as I need firewire, I just reject this option.
After searching trough different options I thought that the Mac mini was the best option. I'll explain to you:
I need the Mac mini for: Audio recording and mixing (Pro Tools) and Video edition (Premiere or other and Adobe After Effects).
I was convinced that the Mac mini with (i7 2.3 or 2.6 and 8Gb the ram plus a SSD) was a good option for my pruposes.
Today I went to the apple store (not an official one, an official distribuitor) and the employees just told me that it isn't powerful enough, that if I need FireWire port it is better to go to a Mac Book Pro or Mac Pro, because, even that the MBP apparently has the same power, it's performance it's much better. Are they right? Because I can only afford the MBP 15" cheaper so 4GB ram...
So, a Mac mini with (i7 2.3/2.6 and 8GB ram + SSD) can run after effects fluently? I will not use 3D stuff, I only wonder if with a 1080p video the reenders will be fast. (I don't want to wait a lot of time on the previews reenders).
PD: the option of Thunderbolt > firewire on the imac doesn't work for me, because I need the Texas Instrument chipset.
I will apmliate the ram to 8GB and install the SSD after buying the Mac mini.
Thanks for reading it!
