I have a mini I bought new from Apple a month ago or so. This model has a FW800 port on it but it's not in use and hasn't ever been used. The machine is running SL, 10.6.1.

This morning I took a look at the kernel logs out of sheer curiosity only to see a slew of messages similar to FireWire (OHCI) Lucent ID 5811 PCI: 377 bus resets in last minute. (this isn't the exact message but very similar; sadly I didn't save the messages). I find this to be very odd considering there's no FW devices plugged into that bus. The only things plugged in are a USB mouse and keyboard, power supply, ethernet and mini display.

I rebooted the machine and the FW reset messages so far haven't returned.

Anyone have any thoughts? Maybe the FW controller is shot despite that it's never been used? Ugg.

I've had the same thing on an iMac running Leopard, never came back after a reboot. Maybe something went wrong when polling for hardware on the firewire bus ? Don't think it's something to worry about.
