Hi all, i just geekbenched my mac mini against my macbook pro!

What a shock!

Macbook pro : 2936
Mini: 2641

Blimey, A machine that cost alot more is not so much faster as i was lead to believe!

Will post specs if interested.

Geekbench does not measure GPU performance, which is the big difference between a mini and a Macbook Pro.

Considering i do not do much graphics work and both machines run a 24inch widescreen!

Mid 2007 Macbook Pro against Mid 2007 Mac Mini

Geekbench only measures the CPU, its a generally useless benchmark utility.

Try CINEBENCH R10 or Xbench and you'll see a night and day difference between the two.

You only scored 2641? My G5 scored 2226.

Yes , its connected to a HD 24inch widescreen in (1080p 1920x1200) , no lag, runs fast, clean graphics!

Now, try to think, how fast will be a new Mac mini with intel Atom, compared to actual Mac minis :p

He might need to wait a while for the test to finish running. The Atom is not mini bound, even with the Ion platform it'll be slow as hell compared to a current mini. The Atom would go to the AppleTV whilst regular core 2 duos will power the mini.

"Fast" is not the word to use. "Horribly slow" is more appropriate to describe the Atom in place of a C2D.

A Celeron can walk all over an Atom of the same clock speed and core count. An Atom powered Mini would be about as fast as a G4 Mini.

I would have to disagree with you about the atom being slow. I am currently running OSX 10.5.5 on my Asus eee 1000h and the performance is excellent. I've never had slow down of any kind but i don't run any games or photoshop type stuff. Animations of windows and dashboard are smooth...really the whole system is perfect...and only cost me about 500 dollars.

BTW, this setup scored a 903 on the geekbench.
