So I have no mac desktop, my girlfriend and i both have macbooks, both with faulty logic boards. I've sent mine back, but she has a project she's working on, and we start college next friday.

I was at my local Costco the other day and I caught sight of a Mac Mini deal:

1.42 GHz G4
80 GB HD
512 MB RAM
Bluetooth and Airport
Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
Superdrive
DVI to VGA adapter
3 year Applecare

$499

Is this a good enough deal that I should buy it to have a backup computer for us? I have the money to buy it, but it seems that maybe I should spend a little more for the new Intel Mini. It seems to be the most incredible deal on a new Mac I have ever seen.

Hi,
That is a good deal.It includes the applecare whitch you woiuld normally have to pay extra for. Costco takes the leftover invintory from apple and sells them.

thats not too bad considering it has a superdrive, comes with the wireless keyboard and mouse and has apple care...

its not going to be super-fast or anything. but it'll get the job done for sure.

if you want it mainly for a back-up/secondary machine i'd go for it. all you'll need is a monitor to complete the setup.

It's only $100 less than what that computer originally sold for 2 years ago (not including the Applecare and keyboard/mouse). The Core Solo Mini will blow the doors off that old G4 on universal apps. I would say spend the extra $100 and go Intel.

Thats a really good deal. If all you are only going to use the computer for word processing, web surfing and other stuff like that it should be fine. But if you need to use any apps that require some processing power, then you should go for the intel mini.
