Mac Mini Hard Drive Failure

Hi guys, the hard drive has just completely failed on my three year old mac mini. I want to replace the drive but I'm not sure if this is something I should do myself? How complex/risky is it?

If I go to the apple genius bar can they help? How much would they charge (out of warranty)?

Can anyone suggest the best course of action?

The trickiest part is getting into the mini! Once you're inside it's like dismantling a jigsaw, the hard drive is hidden away a bit. You need to remove the optical drive to get to it. If you like taking things apart then I'd give it a go, I've done plenty, including CPU upgrades. I love it

Otherwise, take it to Apple, but I'm not sure how much they'll charge.

Head over to ifixit.com. They have guides on how to dismantle/replace parts in most every mac. Following that, find a nice youtube video of someone taking one apart. It's rather simple and all you really need is a putty knife. Read the guides, watch the videos and decide for yourself.
