Mac Mini HDMI

Hello,
I am not sure if this connection is better for a mac mini but I am using an HDMI cable to connect the mac mini to my Dell 24 inch display.
In display under color iT detects the display with the name HD 709-A.
But I am just noticing some artifacts wile watching 1080p movies on you tube.
The cable is a top of the line monster cable the fastest one I could buy.
Is the hdmi on the mac mini just for TV and maybe for a PC monitor I should use the regular connection?

First of all take back the Monster cable and get your money back. Buy one of these - just as good and for about $10.

The artifacts might be due to the player that you're using. Is it Quicktime? You might want to give VLC a try.

Seconded. I have this cable connected to my mini and have no problems whatsoever. Monster is a rip off.

Dear lord. You're smart enough to come on an Apple forum but you got suckered into buying a Monster cable. There is really no such thing as a top of the line HDMI cable. It's a complete scam to squeeze as much money from unsuspecting customers as possible. A $2 HDMI cable from Monoprice.com is the same as any other more expensive one. If you have any more questions just post and we'll help you. Just please, please, please never pay more than $5 for any type of cable ever again.

I just reread your post and realized that you said the 1080p videos are from YouTube. Flash sucks. Upgrading to the latest version might help though

If you are only seeing an issue when watching 1080p on Youtube then i would do a little more testing before deciding that there really is a problem. If other programs e.g. VLC, and other sources, e.g. Blue Ray rips, are delivering good results then there isn't an issue.

I would include in the testing the use of the other port, then you can go with whatever gives the best results on your equipment combo.

As for Flash and it sucking. You should of course keep it up-to-date but although it may suck in a number of ways, principally in eating more CPU than it needs to, it is in fact perfectly capable of playing properly encoded video at high quality.

Unfortunately, because Steve said it sucks in some ways, his worshipers have now decided it just sucks.
