Mac mini home entertainment setup

Hi everyone,

I have been playing around and thinking about getting a mac mini and setting it up as home entertainment setup. I have been playing with Front Row, my Sony Ericsson phone and AppleScript. So this is what I am thinking...

I have used the enabler to make Front Row work on any computer and I think it is a great feature that Apple should support on every computer, not just the new ones.

I have generated an AppleScript that enables Front Row, iPhoto and iTunes on the startup of the computer (having iPhoto and iTunes launch speeds up Front Row). I have also made a setup for my mobile phone which enables me to control Front Row via the navigation keys (if anyone else has a Sony Ericsson phone and would like a bluetooth control for FrontRow let me know). This computer will be on my network as I can control the file storage on the computer from another mac using Chicken of the VNC. This will all be connected to my home TV via an S-video connector.

In theory all the TV would ever display from the mac mini would be Front Row, which I think would be a cool setup.

I think I will wait until the new mini gets released before I progress with this setup as I hope the new units will come with a bigger HD, essential for a lot of videos.

Can anyone think of any improvements?

In what way is using Front Row on a mac mini not legal? Apple offers Front Row 1.0.1 as a free download on their website. At no point does it say downloading this application is illegal if you dont have an iMac/MBP...

This is an update, that has an "iMac G5 with built-in iSight" as systems requirements. And I would only guess the EULA has something to say about where you can actually install this.

And, the fact that you need to run a hack to get it installed and running should be a clue that your doing something not entirely legal...

Is downloading software that enables running QuickTime in full screen mode illegal? That is also a 'hack' and enables a feature that is an QuickTime Pro feature.

Just beacuse something has a system requirement does not mean that it is illegal to download it.

I am just finding it hard to believe that this could be considered illegal as the application was downloaded from the Apple website. If a download said minimum requirement 1GB RAM but you only had 512MB is that illegal to download?

It's not illegal to download in the EU or USA, you can have copied software if you want. It only becomes illegal if the data is manipulated (you use it).

You do not have a licence to use Frontrow, therefore it is illegal.

Indeed, if it doesn't come installed on the machine originally, it's illegal.
