Mac Mini (Intel) and 1280x800

I have a Dell 2005FPW widescreen display that I run natively at 1680x1050. Occasionally, I want to run at 1280x800. This resolution is available under Mac OS X but not when I boot into Windows (Boot Camp 1.4). Can anyone tell me why and is there a way I can force this display mode using the built-in graphics driver software? I am running Windows XP Home by the way.

That will be because of the selected monitor driver in windows.

Change the monitor to a generic plug and play flat panel monitor with max res of 1680x1050. You should have a choice of lower resolutions once applied.

Thanks. I will give that at try. It does show the correct Dell monitor driver currently. Odd...usually I have to manually install monitor drivers as anything modern is hardly ever recognized through plug-and-play.

By the way I do see a lot of other, lower resolutions available, just not 1280x800. I have everything else below 1680x1050.

Bummer. No matter I tried, I could not get the Dell driver to be NOT recognized. I even hunted down the driver file (according to what the hardware manager identified as the driver) and removed it, but Windows still insisted on finding it after a reboot.

I knew about the "Powerstrip" software for customizing resolutions but I wanted to try the simplest approach first. I went ahead and installed it since the above method did not work. I was able to find the 1280x800 (LCD) resolution on the custom resolutions list and "add" it to Windows. Powerstrip said it required a reboot, but the new resolution was not available on my list.
