I got my mini about 2 weeks ago and has been working fine. But yesterday it just crashed while encoding a dvd in handbrake. It just froze up, so I held down the power button to shut it off.
Now it crashes at different points every time I turn it on...
Sometimes it doesn't get past the white screen with spinning thing, sometimes it freezes on the blue screen and other boots fully then freezes up!
Also it sometime gets the screen saying it needs to be restarted and power button held down, others it just freezes up.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated on how to solve this or what's up with it!

Thanks

I tried the disc repair and it said that the hard drive was fine :(
and after a few more attempt the Mini now comes on, makes the sounds, spins on the apple logo screen for a few minutes and shuts down.
Sounds to me like a motherboard issue, like loose RAM or something. Anyone that knows more agree?

Thanks

Do you have an Apple store near you? Or, at an Applecare authorized repair center?

There is a Authorized service provider near me that is all. Would they charge me? or would it be under warranty through them?

Thanks

Well, then you know your hard drive is not failing and that the filesystem is in good order.

Are you saying it did not crash when booting and running from the Installer DVD? But if you boot from the hard drive it does crash? If so, then there is no hardware problem, but a software problem. Otherwise it would crash after booting from the Installer DVD. You probably have to reinstall the OS.

The one time I got it to boot from disc I tried re-installing the OS but it gave me a error. I think I may try formatting the drive and trying again if it could be software.
Good job all my movies and music are on my USB drive.....

Thanks

My Unibody Mac Mini Crashes

My Unibody Mac Mini Crashes when I switch my 1080P Samsung's input sources and when I switch back to the HDMI input source that the Unibody mac mini is on the Mini crashes and I have to hold down the power button to restart it.

I don't know why this is happening.

most likely overheating. what are the temps and fan speed?

did you migrate (via migration assitant) from another mac? could be a kernel panic due to a misbehaving kernel extension from previous system.

did you install third-party ram?
