MM M1 display support is:
  • One display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz connected via Thunderbolt
  • One display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz connected via HDMI 2.0
LG Ultrafine Monitors (24MD4KL) specs are:
  • Two Thunderbolt 3 (input and output for daisy chain)
  • Three USB-C (USB 3.1 gen 1, 5 Gb/s)
Is it possible for the MM M1 to run these two monitors and have all features available, such as brightness controls, wake-up etc?

No. On the M1 mini you can have one monitor up to 6k on the TB3/USB4 port and one on the HDMI port. You can’t use 2 TB3 monitors.

That’s quite some limitation!

If the M1 proves to be faster than the i7, then I will be paying much more for a slower machine just so I can use my existing monitors.

If I go with the M1 instead, I’ll have to sell my monitors, and find two compatible ones or go for a larger single. The whole point I decided to go the MM route, instead of the iMac is for dual monitors, so this is not ideal.

You’re probably best off waiting until Apple silicon supports more than one external display.

It appears Apple will release more Apple Silicon Macs in Q1 next year. Quite likely with more capable M1 version, which quite possibly includes a higher end Mac Mini since theres still one Intel one you can buy. All speculation, but given the Macs still to be upgraded, better external monitor support is likely.

Trouble is I need a Mac now.. I've ordered both the M1 and the i7, and will wait for the benchmarks for the M1. Most likely, I'll be cancelling the M1.

I'm running the 4k Ultrafine and 5k Ultrafine on the Mac Mini M1 8gb. The 5k is hooked up to TB3 via the CalDigit doc and the 4k uses this adapter: https://www.siig.com/hdmi-to-usb-c-port-4k-60hz-converter-adapter.html

Both run just fine along with an iPad Pro as a sidecar display.
Hi, I would be very grateful for your help as I have almost exact same set up but running into trouble.

I should note that I DO have the Siig adapter, 4k ultra fine bought in 2020, 5k ultra fine 1st generation, and mac mini m1 8gb. I do NOT have the caldigit item you mentioned.

Basically I connect my Mac Mini via USBC/Thunderbolt (I think same thing?) to the Ultrafine 5k. This works fine.

Then I go to plug in the SiiG HDMI adapter (link you have listed), plug it into power via micro usb, and then connect USB C wire and it does not turn on the Ultrafine 4k monitor and just left with flashing settings detecting the monitor for a moment then not...attached a video for context

Any ideas on how to resolve this? Thank you!
