Mac mini Memory ran out and don't know why

I am new to mac's, I bought this mac mini last year, a few months before the info came out about the new thinner version, it has 160gb HD I am now getting messages to say my HD is nearly full only 2.84gb left.
I have 24gb on itunes and 34gb on iphoto, I understand programs take up memory etc but I seem to be missing about 100gb, can anyone help please

Missing nearly 100 gigs sounds silly.. How's about movies?
Also, I forgot the specifics, but I had two copies of every song I imported into iTunes, one was where I placed it on my hard drive myself, and the other one was in the iTunes library. Perhaps iPhoto would do something like that as well. It can be turned off, but I don't know where anymore.

I have had another look and maybe 100gb was a little silly but I do seem to be missing a lot of HD. about 70gb
My Movies - 21gb
TV shows - 6gb
podcast - 3gb
Any ideas what else there is that would take up a lot of space on the HD

look at your photos. at one time I had 8 or 9 copies of each photo. also go to
finder and look at music you may have 2 sets of songs

I really don't understand why I have no HD memory left, I have checked for duplicate photo's, videos and music and everything seem to be in order and not duplicated, I have now got to a stage where it wont update apps.
I don't have any programs on this as it is just used for photos, music, some videos and surfing the net.
Is there a temporary internet that is stored on the mac similar to on windows?

My sister had 20 gb of photos that she thought had been deleted but weren't due to an odd way iPhoto deletes photos. I don't know what the latest iPhoto is like but on her version you had to open iPhoto then click iPhoto> Empty Trash. This is completely unintuitive because the iPhoto application itself has a trash that is separate from the Trash can in the dock.

It goes without saying that if there is more than one account on the computer then check those too.

Did you check the Trash? Many people forget to empty it once in a while, and have a lot of stuff in there.

You might also try control-clicking on your user folder, and selecting "get info" (clicking on the folder and pressing Command-I also works), and give it a few minutes to compute the size of the folder. Based on the size, this will tell you if the info is in your user folder, or out in one of the other folders.

Once you get the hang of this, try exploring around your user folder and checking things like your Music, Photos, Documents etc, and find out where the large amounts of data are. Just make sure you give it a minute or two to compute the size of the folders...
