I received the announcement of the "new" Mac Mini.

Apple charges far too much money for memory. Can a user upgrade memory in the Mac Mini or is this an Apple-only upgrade?

I opened my Mac Mini not to long ago, and the only thing I can say is that it can take a little time. I ended up trying and failing to open it about 2 times over a day, but finally got it open. Now I can open it in under 30 seconds. It really just takes that first time.

Besides that, installing the memory is a breeze. The screws are absolutely tiny, so I had to use my moms eye-glass screwdriver. All my others were to large.

Good luck.

If you're buying the new C2D mini, Apple's upgrade to 2MB is $135. Unless you feel comfortable popping open the mini, the extra $40-50 that you pay Apple might be "worth it." Kind of depends on your tech level.

Is there an issue with Mac Mini (early 2006) ram slots?

My supervisor at work had a mini that had a bad ram slot, and this morning I spoke with my dad only to hear that he had a mini with a bad ram slot.

Unfortunately decided to upgrade after his warranty ran out and he didn't purchase apple care.

I think the slot must have been bad from the factory. It was bought as a refurb and only showed 512mb. When they opened it up this week they found it had two 512mb sticks in it. So the slot must have been dead from the beginning.

To all ...

I can get a brand new 9/2007 model Mini w/ these specs :

1.83GHz Intel Core Duo
・2MB
・667MH
・512MBPC2-5300(667MHz)
 DDR2 SDRAMメモリ(DIMM x 2)
・80 GB HDD

For $ 500 but I must act fast . Should I grab it with Leopard right around the corner ?

PS I am in Japan and this is a super deal I think .

That is a shame. Must have been a "silent upgrade" (extra RAM) but it never showed up in the Profiler.

I don't know what minis go for in Japan, but I'd say it's a pretty good deal.

A new Core2 Duo is $100 more with less memory and a combo drive.

I just installed a 3GB kit from OWC. :)

I bought the MacMini 2.0 (Dual Core), with 120GB drive. Went out on casino winnings (had a great night at the BlackJack table) - and just bought a new Viewsonic VS11444 19" LCD, Apple keyboard and USB Mighty Mouse, Seagate 750GB Ext drive and an HP C4240.

Made backups to an external 80GB drive from my WinXP machines and took them offline for good.

The kit from OWC was only $150! I was stunned. To install them was pretty easy, sans the 20 minutes it took to connect a tiny 2 wire jumper-type connection back to the motherboard, so patience was key.

Glad to be on the Apple camp, finally!! The age of Windows for me, has come to the end of the road, finally.

If anyone needs a hand in installing the RAM, I'd be happy to assist.

I need a hand!

I just bought a Refurb Mini from the Apple Store for $479. It is a 1.83/80/SD/2x256. I want to upgrade the RAM to 2GB. I talked to a friend and he said that you should be careful buying RAM because it is not all the same. I was just on OWC and I saw 2x1GB for $75. The brand is Techworks. Is this good? Should I get a different brand? Please advise because I need to make the purchase soon!

congrats on the update. My update was pretty smooth accept for the purchasing experience. I headed to frys and told the guy I needed the 2x1gig set that was on sale. He wrote the ticket, I never looked at it, they pulled it from the cage and guess what? No SO-DIMM's. Ok, back to the ram table, he rewrites the ticket back to the line, the pull from cage and I think all is good. I looked and saw a dimm and was happy. Of course I get home and I realize I got 1 2gig. Which I guess isnt so bad because now I have 2.5 with leaving one of the 1/2gigs in there. Im sure I will go up to 3 gigs soon.
