Mac Mini MHz query...

I want to upgrade the Memory in one of my Mac Minis (Mid-2011, 2.3GHz i5, 500GB HD) to 8GB. Currently installed RAM is running 1333MHz.

I've read that 1333MHz is the maximum my particular Mini is capable of using (please correct me if this is wrong) but want to know if I can still install 1600MHz versions in to this model without any adverse effects, as I've seen a good deal on 2 x 1600MHz 4GB sticks (that are specified for use in the higher spec Mid-2011 i5 2.5GHz, i7 2.0GHz and i7 2.7GHz Minis).

Putting faster memory in a computer that is not capable of handling it will have zero effect. You'll not see a speed different, it will operate at the stated speeds.

So you put in 1600MHz memory, the logic board will only use 1333MHz

This is assuming you're using the same type of memory, and only the speed is the difference.

That is fine, if installing 1600MHz won't have any adverse effects on my particular model of Mini. I'm only interested in these 2 x 4GB 1600MHz because it is a cheaper way to get 8GB in there.

As long as everything else is identical, i.e., DDR3 etc it should be fine.

Did it for the same reason... Got 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz for free couple of years ago...

Upgraded my mini (2009 Model uses 1066Mhz Modules) and worked great!!!!
Still works without any issues after 3 years...

It might even run at 1600Mhz. My Mini 2009 says it runs at 1333 now, even though it is supposed to work at 1066 only. It is speedier than before.

Yep i remember it that before mavericks it said 1333MHZ but i'm not anymore sure if it's now...

Have to check it...

But i only think he reads the speed of the module but it is not the actual speed i guess...
