My 2010 Mac Mini has had some issues, it would crash down a little after logging in and doing some light stuff. My family bought a new Mac mini 2 years ago, but wanted to check it out again just because.
Before I go any further, I work at a repair shop(mainly phones) and have had experience with repair so I’m not just a dummy.
Following the Ifixit guide, everything was going good, until the IR sensor 🙄. Without putting pressure on it, I wiggled I around gently with my spudger, and saw it wiggle and that some of the joints were loose.
Trying to be extra careful, I unplugged the Ir sensor cable, and the connector broke off lol.
btw the main reason I took it apart was to take a look and see if the thermal paste was good, thought it might be a thermal issue. (Not too smart about diagnostic techniques with computers)
We never used the IR sensor on our Mac, so I was wondering if I just leave the connector of would it be fine? I have soldering skills, but that’s my last resort, if it can stay off without burning the house down, it will stay off 😆
Please let me know your ideas, I have included pictures.
