Mac mini mid 2011 - struggles with mkv - vlc

I have the base model of mac mini mid 2011 with upgraded ram to 8gb.

When i use vlc to view some HD nba games (720p - around 3-4gb) it struggles in full screen.... while in hd movies 720p i dont have any problem... movies run smooth.

So it has to do with nba's rip or with vlc?

Have you tried something other than VLC -- like XBMC -- to play the MKVs?
