The current Mac Mini has a thunderbolt digital video output. What monitor accepts this input?

Apple doesn't make monitors anymore, correct?

Yeah, any DVI or HDMI monitor* will do. I think the thunderbolt to DVI and HDMI video adapters come in the box as well? If not, they're super cheap through Amazon or Monoprice.

* up to the max resolution of the Mini, of course

DVI isn’t DisplayPort. There’s no DVI port (edit: on a mini).

OK, so what do you call this port labelled "DVI"?

I don't think so. The 2012 Mini included an HDMI to DVI adapter but that was dropped from the 2014 Mini since HDMI is a pretty solid standard now. A thunderbolt video adapter has never been included.

They discontinued the last Apple branded monitor two years ago: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/06/23/apple-discontinues-thunderbolt-display/

They now have a partnership with LG for a couple monitors. Never used one, but I don't think they are fully compatible with the 2014 Mini. https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/displays/

See this for more info on compatible monitors: https://everymac.com/systems/apple/...aluminum-video-processor-display-support.html

That port carries DP 1.2, a component of TB2. Pretty much any modern display with a DP port and an mDP>DP cable will suit most needs. Some Dell displays also include an mDP port as well, I own several but there may be others out there. Get a cable from a certified manufacturer, the cable should state 5.4GHz per channel over all 4 channels for the smoothest experience - I use Accell and StarTech.

Yes, that’s a DVI port. There’s no such port on the current Mac mini so I don’t understand why you brought it up. Adapters might be available, but HDMI and DisplayPort are enough in most cases.

Exactly. So DVI ports do exist on monitors, and if you want to connect a Mac Mini to one of them you can by using an adapter. I've got a Dell monitor on my desk right this moment that has a DVI port and no HDMI, connected to a Mac Mini using exactly the adapter I was talking about. Do everyone a favor and read a post correctly next time before you comment, yeah?

I’m sorry, but you don’t have to be rude about it. Just look at the original question and the first two comments and try to see why I made the mistake; it just seemed like you agreed on my post and then instead of pointing out which ports are on the Mac mini like I did, you go for a less obvious connector (why not mention VGA and DisplayPort as well?). You misinterpreted me as well, so I edited my second post.

OP:

Your options for connecting a display to the Mini are:
1. via displayport. The thunderbolt port IS ALSO THE DISPLAYPORT CONNECTOR. Same port, but you can connect "either way".
2. via HDMI.

The more important questions to be asked here are:
- What display do you have?
- What resolutions does it support?
- What connections are on the back?

DVI to HDMI adapters are plentiful and inexpensive since there's usually no translation needed they output the same signal.

LG makes some nice 34" Thunderbolt monitors that allow you to connect to TB2 and get Video and USB3 to the monitor on one cable. I've got two of these and they work well and unlike Apple's TB display, they have other inputs as well.

I second the recommendation for a 34“ monitor, but would strongly emphasize to go for a curved one!

The flat variants are far less nice to view on, as your eyes have to refocus between the edges and center of the monitor. This constant adaptation is very tiresome. Younger eyes may be less susceptible, but aging eyes will always prefer the curved 34“ers.

I started with a flat one myself, to save a few bucks. After a few days I returned it, got a curved one and never looked back! Far better for both work and immersion in gaming!

You can buy a variety of Thunderbolt II adapters. I have a cable that is a TB II to DVI, TB II to Mini DisplayPort, they even have TB II to HDMI cables. Take you pick. I use a TB II to Mini DisplayPort 1.2 plugged into a Samsung 4K monitor. I use the TB II because you get better performance vs the built in HDMI. On a 2014 Mac Mini 2.6, I can get 2560 x 1440 at 60 hz. Looks better than using HDMI.
