2011 Mac mini

I had it connected it to my 55" GT50 via HDMI, worked flawlessly
Then my brother gave me his 34" Polaroid, I wanted to use my Mac mini with that instead but it doesn't work. I use the same HDMI cable and when I plug it in I see like pixels everywhere looks as if the Mac mini GPU died or is failing, but them when I connect it to the 55 again it works -.-
So I'm thinking maybe the 34" TV has some issue or the port is not working, so I connect my Apple TV To it and it works fine

Ugh what's going on?

Have you plugged any other HDMI device into the Polaroid to see if it's just a bad display?

Shows this when says no signal.

Just tried on my moms TV, and it works fine.
There's something about this Polaroid with the mac that doesn't want to work together

Update: When the Mac rebooted it plugged it on another tv and copied the code
can anyone find out why its happening with this specific tv?

You could try a mini display port to VGA or DVI adapter, although as they are only suggestions which may not work it may be a slightly costly method of problem elimination. You will also need seperate sound as well so whilst they may work they are not the best option. Also your TV will need to support VGA or DVI.

I have a similar problem at home. I have three minis that all work absolutely fine on a Sony Bravia LCD 40". They sort of work on a plasma 50" if I adjust the overscan, and none of them work on an elcheapo 21" TV I have. Although my Apple TV 3 and MacBook Air works fine on that 21" TV even though it is HDMI or DVI to HDMI (respectively) as well. So it appears to be the Mac mini in my case.

i really want to know whats the problem behind it? why is it happening?

I am purely guessing (and don't quote me on this) but...

I am guessing there are some universally accepted forms of HDMI based video signals that Apple and the TV/monitor companies etc must build their products by. Unfortunately they do not always match up.

For example USB 2.0 standards call for the amps to be 0.5 Amps, but Apple breaches that standard for its iPad and Super Drive by having them at 2.01 and 1.6 Amps respectively (i believe it is 1.6 from memory?). That is why a super drive will usually not work on any other USB port than a modern Mac port because it only gets 0.5 assigned. And you can not charge an iPad on a standard USB port but can slow chanrge it on a iPhone charger which works at 1 amp. Apple does not always follow standards.

This doesn't help you I know. Sorry.

Thanks so much for the info wether is wrong or not, I appreciate it!!

I'm going to order thunderbolt to VGA cable.

Maybe the Mac is still outputting a 1080P signal from being hooked up to the other TVs (that are 1080P models) and the Polaroid is 720P and the Mac isn't switching to the proper resolution?

I went on the gt50 lowered to 720p and connected to Polaroid and same issue.

You know what's weird, the first time i did it, it worked. I disconnected Mac mini from gt50 and connected to Polaroid and it worked, until I choose best for display rather than scaled. Then screen went blue and it never worked again.

In display settings you can set the screen display format as pal or ntsc. ntsc is US/Can/JP etc while Australia (and i think UK) is pal.

yeah and since I have done the mistake of the wrong setting years ago I set it at pal not nstc I think he did the same thing. that messed up screen looks like mine did back in 2007

On the tv's menu display? Or on the Mac mini?

My error was on the choice of resolutions for the display.

it was a 1080i tv crt 32 inch weighed in at 250 pounds.

I picked an oddball resolution choice. something like what you see although this is a monitor and I can not make that mistake
