Mac mini no Fusion Drive - Help

Hi,
I read the article "How to separate a Fusion Drive" by Aden White and have a question for some forum user who knows the subject:
I have a Mac mini (late 2012 2.3 GHz i7 1TB HDD).
I put a 120GB SSD.
My purpose was to let the two separate discs. Put the OS on the SSD and HDD left empty. I did not want to drive fusion.

In the course of the operation and display both chose the SSD disk to install the operating system (boot disk) and the other thought it would be empty.

But it turned out well.
On the screen appeared the two discs but to my surprise on the HDD are the same applications on SSD.
Further. The download a pdf was mounted on the two discs.
I wanted to see what would happen if I delete an application from the HDD and the SSD also erased.

Format HDD with the security system of the 7 "0" it took about 24 hours. All applications were equal in the HDD disk.

I rebooted the computer by clicking the "alt" and informed me that he had two albums the SSD as a boot disk and HDD below said. "Recovery disk 10.8.3).

How I have to do to completely erase the HDD and keep the SSD as a boot disk?

It seems like you're saying the drives are mirroring each other? It's not entire clear.
So everything on the HDD also appears on the SDD, and vice versa? But they are two separate volumes?

Also, note that when you boot up holding down <alt>, there is a Recovery Partition on the HDD (a bit like an installer disk).

BTW: Don't do 7-times erase on the entire HDD. It's completely unnecessary and will shorten the life of your drive.

I would boot to the Recovery PArtition, go back to Disk Utility, sort out your volumes how you want them, and try installing again.

Also: any reason you DON'T want Fusion? For most general purposes, they are demonstrably more efficient than separate volumes.

Perhaps a dumb question but why not just go ahead and reformat the HDD?

Hi, hudson1, Thank for reply.Please explain to me as reformatting the hard drive (HDD). Used Disk Utility from HDD or SSD and what steps still format.

You might check to see if you somehow configured the two drives as a RAID-1 (mirror) in DiskUtility. If so, and you erase one of them, the other will be also erased, as would be expected in a mirrored setup.

Hi, hfg, Thank for reply.
In he HDD and SSD tells the same story:

RAID Group Nama: Group RAID 1 without title
Format: Mac OS Extended (Journelet)
RAID Type: RAID Mirror Gruup

The later can be changed to RAID Stripe Group o Group Set Concatenated.

What should I do?

First, I would backup the data just in case...


Then, you want to "delete" the raid link to separate the disks. I would hope that the data would remain on both disks, but I am not sure as I haven't done this before, thus the backup.

You would not want to run the HDD and SSD together as a RAID-0. You want matched pairs (or more) of drives to form a RAID-0 striped array, either both HDD or both SSD.

I had to install the SSD in an external USB enclosure to reintialize it as a single drive (volume) to break the Fusion. After that, I put it back in the Mini and it was seen by Disk Utility. A pain in the back side.
