New mac mini user here, so bear with me,
bought the latest mac mini so that I could connect it to my Polaroid tv and use it for tv/movie viewing and schoolwork. HOWEVER...it won't work with the Polaroid. I attached it using an HDMI cord, but got just a grey screen, and then after switching ports on my tv a couple times, got nothing at all. Switched mini to tv in bedroom, a Vizio and works great. But I don't want it in my bedroom, what do I need to do to solve this issue? The Polaroid is HD, and has HDMI outlets that work for HD cable, so what's the issue? The Polaroid is about 6 years old, could it just be incompatible? That seems ridiculous...

If your Polaroid TV is 6 years old it might not be 1080 but 720p. The Mac mini is going to default to 1080 through HDMI. See if you can change the resolution of the HDMI out while hooked up to your Vizio to 1280x720, turn it off, hook it up to the Polaroid and see if that fixes it.

Polaroid made tvs? Who knew....

Yeah they are (or at least were) available here in the US as well. Usually though they were regulated to the discount chains mostly and were the entry level models at that (take no offense to this OP, just giving my .02 worth). They competed mostly with the Westinghouses, Sanyos, etc.... They are (or were anyway) great "kids" tv's and guest room tvs (think 2nd or 3rd tv).
