The past few years I have owned a laptop which has resulted in the use of my windows pc decrease. I now just use my first gen iPad or windows laptop for any work that I have to do. I now want to get a office and set up a desktop pc again, however money is tight. So I have to options

My first option is to update my windows pc, however this could cost a bit, and windows is liable for all sorts of problems even though I haven't had any on my windows 7 laptop.

And my second option is to use my educational discount and buy a mac mini, I can use my wireless keyboard for my iPad and link it to a standard pc screen.

As for program's, I'll run adobe photoshop occasionally, Corel draw, and the odd flight simulator game. I originally wanted the iMac but my budget can't stretch that far.

Anyone share some experience, I've been to my local apple store and been told what I need it for isthe mac mini is fine, I'm looking at the entry 2012 model by the way and with the discount I can't get it for £476. However what apple won't tell me is the disadvantages.

I like apple and the use of cloud makes syncing documents easy, but isit worth the money.

Sounds to me like you should be getting a Mac Mini. As for the "limitations" of the entry level model... Mainly just configuration options. RAM in these is stupid easy to upgrade (unlike the iMac) so that's not likely to be a problem in the future. Getting at the disk is a little more difficult but not impossible.

FWIW, I've wasted a ton of time trying to upgrade Windows over the years. Now with the Microsoft activation process, that's only getting worse. I never have those issues with my Mac.

Unless you NEED Windows on your desktop for some reason, get the Mac and don't look back.

Memory is very tight on the entry level model. With RAM prices as they are, it is fairly "cheap" to upgrade to 8GB from other places other than Apple (and no it won't void your warranty). 2GB of RAM for photoshop probably won't get you very far. I have the entry level Mac Mini with 8GB of RAM and an SSD and it is a very competent machine and takes up very little room.
