With all those rumors going around and then that news story that said mactels wont come out till June its hard for me to decide if i should buy a mac mini right now.

ive been thinking about buying one since they got upgraded. if apple does pull a surprise out at macworld and introduce a mac mini with intel processors will that really make that much of a difference? should i wait?

im stumped.

You might as well wait until MWSF 06, which is just 3 weeks away. By then, we'll all know if new mac minis will be released, which I'm hoping they will be.

As Lacero said, just wait the few weeks until MWSF - that should at least help with your decision.

Oh, and Intel-based Macs aren't coming out in June, they will be out by June - which means Jobs will possibly even announce an Intel-based Mac at MWSF with a shipping date a few months out. regardless of what happens though, Intel-based Macs will be shipping by WWDC. Which ones, now that's another matter for speculation... Which takes us back to the original recommendation - just wait until MWSF for starters... ;)

WAIT!!! with all the rumors going around, almost anybody can afford to wait, especially for a mac mini (most of the rumors are associated with that...)

Something to think about...
as with any brand, the first line of a new peoduct always has a few bugs in it.

But if you wait, and decide you don't like the new one they release (assuming they do release it), you could probably get the "old" model on clearence somewhere (like CompUSA, Bestbuy, etc)

d'oh

I JUST bought a mac mini with a combo drive from Amazon and received it Wednesday. And just my luck, they dropped the price of the Superdrive model to $619.99. I'm kicking myself now. I suggest you buy it. Or you could always buy my combo one for $520 ;) (seriously. It's the updated model. Anyone?)

Definately wait. The new mini should give you more for your money, especially as the rumours from the highly-reliable Think Secret point to a major upgrade.

Since we are on the subject of mini's ...
I've connected mine up to my HDTV. I've heard of performance problems if the resolution is too high. I've run mine at 1280x720 progressive and 1920x1080 interlaced. They looked about the same, but window frames flickered badly when interlaced. I'm moving to Houston and will be buying a new HDTV and am looking at the 1920x 1080 progressive HDTV.

Something is up with Mini thats for sure. Apple doesnt just throw in a 64 mb video and increase the cpu megahertz to 1.5 without saying a word. Very Unlike Apple but what is like Apple is is to introduce a new Product only to make major changes at the next follow up. I expect an all new Mini coming our way:D Our Mini is about a year old now and its been flawless. With Apple going video it only makes sense that all of their products are going to get closer to the .........................................TV!

Careful... remember PowerMac G5 will come out at 3 GHz by next year
;)

With a huge transition like this, trust me, Intel-based Macs will be shipping by June. Are you a betting man? Care to make it interesting?

Ya! I'm hoping the rumor of the DVR capable mini with ipod doc will come true. I'm thinking that instead of a tv/dvd player, I'll probably buy a mini and a 20" LCD and use that as a jukebox, tv/dvd player, etc (for a small NY apt.).
