If you are using OS X Server 3.2.2 and upgrade to the free OS Yosemite the OS X Server will not load. An error message appears stating that the current version is incompatible with the OS. "You can't use this version of the application "Server.app" with this version of OS X. You have "Server.app" 3.2.2.

There is a new version of OS X Server 4.0 on the Apple Apps Store that will work with Yosemite but you'll have to pay $19 for it. So, are we to now expect that the OS we've already paid for and have had previous free upgrades are no longer to be free? On the App site reviews for this new version of Server there is an understandable outrage in that many features now do not work, passwords and functionality are lost creating downtime of those who found Server 4.0 inadequate and had reverted back to Mavericks and OS X Server 3.2.2.

Pay a lot and get less.

Yawn. You got the OS for free, you paid nothing: Server hasn't been an OS for years. The server is an app. 3.2.2 still functions, just go back to the previous os you got for free. This is how server has worked since after SL. If you don't need it, don't pay for it.

Server.app has not ever been free. If you got it with a Mini, the premium for the application price was built into the sale price. $19 is significantly less expensive than any other closed-source server package.
Also, and unfortunately, every new major version of Server has come with an assortment of bugs, some far too severe to be acceptable. Server 4 is unlikely an exception. Upgrading a critical server, running any platform, without testing is simply foolish.
