Is it just mine or does this new mini power connector come out too easily? I have to be very careful removing the ethernet cable or FW800 cable lest the power connector slip out and cause a hard shutdown. It's a bit annoying.

Does anyone else have this problem or do I just have a bum connector?

Cheers,

My old mini has exactly the same problem ... it sits behind (in a snug space) and if i move it to get at the drive for example it can easily drop out

Yes! I noticed that as well. I bought a Mac Mini for my daughter over the weekend and noticed when I plugged in the power cable, it was a loose fit.

lol @ canadian model. I know what you mean though. It's not so bad in my case but no magsafe

We've installed about 35 so far. For the most part, I've found these minis to be a bit more snug and keeping in the power connectors a little better.

But there were a couple that were a little less snug, so maybe it just happens to be by chance on which one you get.

For what it's worth, we've approached a few different manufacturing companies to see if they could come up with a little add-on that we could use to lock them in place. So far, there hasn't been a well designed option to move forward on.

Well, if and when you find a low cost, effective add-on, please share so those of us NOT from Canada can enjoy a firm connection too.

Cheers,

Mine is very loose as well. I'm not sure if it's the power cable or the power jack on the mini that is faulty. Maybe a call to Apple is in order. Maybe we can get a new power supply sent? Can someone try their old mini's power supply in the new mini to see if it is tight?

I never heard of this problem.

Ain't the power connector similar to the one found on Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme?

I've had the new Mini for just under 2 weeks-- it replaced the previous base model which I had for just a couple of weeks before that -- and the quality of ALL the ports is definitely lower.

I haven't had the power connector come out but I've been booting from a FW drive and the FW port is driving me bananas. sometimes even without touching the cords at all, it does a "random disonnect" i.e. loses contact with the external drive instantly. The slightest movement causes the same thing, and very often the drive doesn't show up when I power up (with the option key down), forcing me to spend a half hour repeatedly connecting it, unconnecting it, wiggling the cable etc.

At first I thought it was because I was using the mini upright: apparently FW800 cables are designed to be more stable in one direction than the other. But it hasn't much improved since I set the mini down flat.

I'm going to try to get it replaced, but if the replacement also has such cheap ports, it's going back for a refund. Pretty much all the ports (including the USB ports) are noticeably looser than the connections on my peripherals or old G5, so I do fear that either cheap parts or lack of space for Apple to properly reinforce the ports is the issue. I'm crossing my fingers that it's just one bad Apple in the bunch...

Yea i had this problem too, i pushed it back into this spot where i keep it and it just turned off on me. Power came right out, and ive done it twice now, quite aggravating but then again how often do I really move it, so it shouldn't be that big of a deal once i get it in place.........if i ever do get it back from applecare...:(.
