Mac mini problems- it just freezes!

Yesterday, I made the big step and bought my first mac. A 2GHz mac mini, a 20 inch cinema screen plus wireless keyboard and mouse. Setup appeared easy and I was very happy!

But now it keeps freezing. I will be using a simple program like iTunes (notthing very demanding) and then I find that everything stops working. The mouse stylus still moves but I can't click on anything, even the music playing will stop. With my PC I would ctrl/alt/del but I don't know what to do with a mac. I have been turning it off which worked a few times but now it turns on still frozen!

Am I making a simple error! I hope so, please help if you can!

Can you provide us more details, including how much RAM and what configuration, which OS, etc.?

Is it 10.4.xx or 10.5.xx (from the Apple menu item "About this Mac")? Have you updated the OS with Apple's most recent updaters from Software Update?

Is your RAM 2x512 mb or 1x1 gb (click on the "More Info" from above).

If you're running 10.5 ("Leopard") on a 1 gig Mini, it might cause troubles. In addition, bad RAM can cause such problems, too.

Unfortunately, I can't click on any icons to find this stuff out.

The screen loads up but when I click on icons nothing happens!

OK, start with this:

1. Insert your Installer DVD into the slot of your Mini, but do not insert it all the way.

2. Turn on the Mini and immediately press and hold the Option key. Insert the Installer DVD all the way. By holding the Option key you should get a screen with the option to boot from your hard drive or the DVD. The DVD will take a minute or less to show up on your screen. Use the arrow keys to select the DVD and then press return to start the boot from the DVD.

3. Choose English as your language.

4. At the very next screen, select Disk Utility from the Utilities pull-down menu item. When Disk Utility launches, choose your hard disk and perform a Repair Disk to see if that solves your problems. If it freezes while performing this, it is likely that you have a hardware fault of some kind. If it succeeds, reboot from your hard drive to see if the problem persists.
