Have a late 2012 Mac Mini with fusion drive. Have been experiencing intermittent spontaneously shut downs for several months. Thought had it licked with a complete re-install of 10.10 but did it again today.

Also have problem with iTunes not recognizing iPhone, iPad. Comes back after a shut down. Have noticed that free memory starts high and slowly dwindles before heading toward 2GB free. When it gets "high" know that non-recognition of devices is near.

Have 8GB installed and Rember says all is well. Have checked the disk and permissions with no reported problems.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

run apple hardware test in extended mode

you might need the original disks to run a.h.t.
i tried to run a.h.t. over the internet and now it won't let me

if you need a a.h.t. cd you can go to
https://github.com/upekkha/AppleHardwareTest

spontaneous shutdowns point to a serious hardware problem, imo

maybe the power supply could be going out
or the cpu or graphics is overheating.

go back to your old ram for a while.

reinstall the operating system from scratch, and restore from time machine

the genius could also check your cpu temperatures and fans manually using their genus bar tests, which they will do for free, but i have been told that a.h.t. has the same tests that they use at the genius bar.
