How many drives can a mac mini server hold? I am considering a mini server for a desktop and according to the configuration options it can be order with two 750 GB 7200 SATA drives plus a 256 GB for a total of three drives. Is this correct?
where would they put the third drive
Or right there in the store description itself:Configurable to dual 750GB (7200-rpm) hard drives, single or dual 256GB solid-state drives, or 256GB solid-state drive and 750GB (7200-rpm) hard drive, only at the Apple Online Store.
And if it had three slots, why wouldn't they have triple HD/SSD options as well?Your Mac mini with Lion Server comes as standard with two 500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA hard drives for a total of 1TB of internal storage. Choose larger 750GB hard drives for 1.5TB of storage space or choose a solid-state drive (SSD), which has no moving parts and provides greater responsiveness and durability. You can order a single SSD, dual SSDs or an SSD in combination with a hard drive.
There is no "card", just a chip on the board.
Anyway pretty that's a screwup, check out the specs page:

Who knows, I would agree with you that it is not an option but they insisted that it was, I saved a copy of the chat and was going to send it to apple but could not find where to send it. You would think that they would know what they are selling.
I checked the Apple Site this morning and the configuration for the Mac Mini Server has been changed. It definitely was there yesterday but has been quietly changed so I guess it was a typo after all, they just won't admit it. I thought it was too good to be true but I suppose you can stuff only so much into such a small package.
2X750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm + 256GB Solid State Drive
is no longer an option. It has bee changed to read
750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm + 256GB Solid State Drive
