Here's one that may amuse everyone. On the AppleStore UK...

If you specify a standard Mac Mini 2.3Ghz i7 with 4GB RAM, plus a 256GB SSD, the price is £838.99

If you specify a Mac Mini Server 2.3Ghz i7 with 4GB RAM, plus a 256GB SSD, the price is £1009.00

On the Mac Mini Server, you only get the one 256GB SSD. You don't get the additional 1TB ATA drive.

The only difference between the two is a copy of OSX Server. That's a £13.99 download from the App Store, by the way.

I have confirmed the above in person at my local AppleStore and via an online chat with an Apple representative. That latter could not provide any explanation on the reasoning behind such pricing (neither did he know that there is a second/un-used drive bay on the standard Mac Mini).

Pricing in the US is similarly strange:
$1199 for the 4GB/256GB SSD Server,
$999 for the 4GB/256GB regular mini.

It's simple. People actually buy them in that configuration, so why not charge them more. Apple is probably laughing their asses off every time someone buys a Mac Mini server.

Apple also prices a specific configuration on the 15" Retina MBP the same, whether or not it includes the discrete GPU.
2.3GHz i7/16GB RAM/512GB SSD is $2599, regardless of whether you get only the integrated graphics or the Nvidia 750M.

Looks like they're charging more for the 2nd drive in the base server config, then either not leaving the 2nd drive or not valuing it in the SSD trade out. It's either a mistake or they need to cover the costs of the swap.

I think the pricing probably stems from the 2 hard drives being included. Yeah, it's quite the shame and hilarious. I'm curious if the server has the mount and such for a 2nd hard drive still though.
