Mac Mini Server Question

I am looking to keep all of my music, movies, pictures, etc on a Mac Mini. Right now we have 2 Macbooks in our house and we want to be able to access all the stuff from the Mac Mini wirelessly. Is this possible? If so how would I do it? Would I need the new Mac Mini Server, or would just a normal Mac Mini do?

Turn on file sharing and set the other computer's iTunes preferences to use the mini's music library.

okay what about the video's/movies? they are not in iTunes format. They are mostly mkv files.

U use VLC to view non Itunes vids.
