Mac Mini spins, then spits out cd/dvd's

My mini is spinning the discs, then spitting them back out, never reading them. I'd take it into the apple store but 1)it's out of warranty and 2) they just blame everything on me having opened it to add RAM. Any ideas for a fix? I searched and one person suggested reinstalling os x, but I'd like not to have to do that if possible. Thanks

Have you tried with multiple DVDs/CDs? I burned few albums to DVD for my friend and it spitted out 2 out of 5 disks, so the disks were not working properly (tried 'em on my PC to with no result) If it spits out all disks, there must be a problem with your optical drive. I guess Apple Store can replace it for little charge + new optical drive's cost or you can do it buy yourself

If you successfully managed to upgrade your RAM, you'd easily be able to swap out your optical drive for a replacement.
