Mac Mini Stutter

Anyone else having issues when plugging in 3-4 or more USB hardware?

For instance, when I plug in a external HD, flash drive, or even a usb wireless mouse, the computer begins to freeze/stutter.

I'm running mountain lion--fully updated and have had this usb issue since day one...

I have not had any issues. I have two USB 3.0-hard drives plugged directly into the Mac mini (Late 2012). I have a 7-port USB 2.0 hub and a 4-port USB 3.0 hub plugged into the other two USB ports. I have two or three USB 3.0 drives (HDD and BD-RE) plugged into the USB 3.0 hub. I have a web cam and a mix of assorted USB devices plugged into the USB 2.0 hub at different times (e.g., a Mac keyboard, thumb drives, two Garmin Forerunner devices, an iPad 30-pin cable, two Lightning pin cables, a mini-USB cables for phones and cameras, and other occasional devices). I probably have 10 devices connected on average at any one time. At one point, I even daisy-chained a second 7-port USB 2.0 hub into the first to connect extra devices. Still no problems. (All hubs are independently powered.)

I found out the hard way that you cannot use a POWERED USB hub with the mac..disconnect the powersupply and it will be fine.

How did you find out the hard way? I haven't had any problems.

Running multiple hubs to charge various combinations of an iPad 2, an iPad 3, two iPad minis, an iPod nano, a Garmin Forerunner 305, and a Garmin Forerunner 310XT, and support various and sundry other I/O devices isn't going to work without independent power supplies. (The iPads don't charge fast with a standard hub's output, but if left connected overnight, which the kids' minis often are, they charge.)

I have nine USB devices connected to my Mini right now (not counting hubs). I use a 4-port powered USB 2.0 hub and a 7-port powered USB 3.0 hub. No issues.
