I am currently on holiday in thailand and was looking to buy a mac mini over here to take back with me to the uk,i was just wondering if anybody could tell me if it would work ok, back in the uk?

It should do, though you may need to buy a power adapter coverer.

P.S Don't shout, I have a hangover.
 
If there's a fault with it then you may be on your own warranty wise as I doubt Apple UK will cover you. Many people buy electrical products abroad every holidays and then come unstuck when things go wrong - just something to think about.

Bollox, bought loads of Apple products abroad and apple couldn't be more helpful when I had a problem with my old 3gs phone or my new mac mini. GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT, before spouting crap on this forum.

Only if you are stupid enough to declare it....put the mac mini in the suitcase with out packaging, if stopped (highly unlikely, unless you are acting like a drug carrying spizz) tell them you took it to thailand with you to carry out work. :)

People aren't spouting crap and it might be better if you got your facts straight. If you bought an iPhone overseas and Apple repaired it under warranty here in the UK then you got lucky. Apple's official policy on iPhones is that the warranty is only valid in the country of purchase.

When I had a problem with mine whilst in the US which I had bought here they wouldn't even take a look at it and told me I would have to wait until I got back to the UK. IPads, iPods and laptops all have world wide warranties.

As far as I'm aware the desktops do not have a world wide warranty but then people are less likely to travel abroad with or purchase abroad desk tops.

If you're away for a couple of weeks, without a work permit - would that wash?

Who takes a desktop aboard to work?

I know the risk is small, but are the supposed savings worth it?

I got lucky? No, I had my 3GS replaced here at the Apple store in Kingston when it developed a discharge fault, ring them yourself. The mac mini was telephone support, again no Issues from Apple about the product being purchased in another country.... And that's a Fact! Want more?

? The mac mini is small enough to take away with, and why would you need a work permit wtf are you going on about?

I'd say £180 saving is substantial enough in buying one to bring back with you.

You did get lucky whether you choose to accept it or not. The iPhones DO NOT have a worldwide warranty. If the phone was purchased in another country Apple will not honour the warranty here and vice versa. You're implying I'm saying your telling lies which I'm not. I'm sure you did get it replaced but yours is an exceptional case.

Apple products have the same warranty worldwide! I get my Macs fix while I'm in asia and bought them from the States!

Sorry, but iPhones are worldwide as well and as long the authorize resellers sell them. I got my iPhone 3GS factory unlocked replace in the US from Singapore. All they did was enter my serial number so the factory unlocked would be enable on the US model.On the other hand I couldn't do any warranty on my iPhone 4 when I'm in Vietnam cuz no authorize resellers sell/carry the iPhone 4.

Maybe phones sold as sim free and unlocked are covered worldwide but those on a contract are not.

No I didn't, checked with the store again day before yesterday and was told all apple products are covered world wide... Apples answer, not mine..

Sorry but you're wrong. iPhones purchased under contract have country specific warranties and are not covered worldwide. So not all Apple products have worldwide warranties.

I've had an iPhone purchased in Thailand serviced here.

And OP: yes it will work fine in the UK, if you get an adaptor for the plug.

If you mean former UK colonies, Thailand wasn't colonised by the UK (or any country, in fact). The plug will usually be two or three round pins. You'll need an adapter to use it in the UK.

Give it up will you...already you have a few people on here telling you they have had their phones serviced, repaired or replaced here in the UK although the product was bought elsewhere, and we now know that the mac mini is also covered here so we have answered the question for the OP.

I think maybe you should give it up. Like I said contract phones do not have a worldwide warranty. Maybe sim free unlocked ones do and maybe the odd person with a contract phone got lucky. I myself was not able to get mine serviced overseas and I know of several other iPhone owners who weren't either. Contract phones are usually locked to a local network and therefore cannot be repaired and certainly not replaced in another country even under warranty.
