alright I realize this is kind of an old question but I'm gonna ask it anyway since it hasn't been answered for the CURRENT generation Mac Mini.

I already have a 2012 Mac Mini and a 27 inch Cinema Display. Can I just go out & buy a Thunderbolt Display and connect my 27 inch Cinema Display to that and have it work?

Last year Apple supposedly said it was impossible, but maybe things have changed in the current generation Macs. so is it possible?

if it's not I wouldn't mind adding an extra Thunderbolt device in between the two screens to make it work.

are there any people running this EXACT setup? (mac mini, TBD, ACD) and what's your experience?

Nope. The problem is not with your new Mac mini, it is that the Thunderbolt displays do not have displayPort passthrough. Apparently, though (I haven't tried it myself), it is possible to do one of these daisychains--I can't remember which:

MM -> TD -> external storage -> ACD
or
MM -> external storage -> TD -> ACD

The details are in Anandtech's review of the Thunderbolt displays.

Yep, this is correct. You have to have another Thunderbolt device between the TD and the ACD.

As stated, this is your solution:

MM -> TD -> external storage -> ACD

I believe it was anandtech.com that figured this out.
