I was going to buy the latest Mac Mini and connect it up to two screens. One through Hdmi and the other through the thunderbolt port. (am I right in saying that dvi and thunderbolt are the same?) so I was going to buy a dvi to hdmi converter. Will it work?

No. The Thunderbolt port is the same connector as Mini Display Port. Apple sells Mini Display Port to DVI adapters and some 3rd parties do as well.

The Mac Mini comes with a HDMI to DVI adapter for connecting to a DVI display from the HDMI port.

If you want to use two HDMI screens then you'd need a 3rd party Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter.

Great. Does anyone know if this works effectively?

Yes. I have two DVI monitors on my Mac mini and it works great. One via the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter and one using an Apple mDP-to-DVI adapter.

Hi,

I am looking do create a similar setup when I get my new mac mini. I will be running 24" Dell IPS displays, res 1920x1200, can HDMI handle upto 1200 ? For some reason I have been hearing that HDMI will only out 1080p ? I will be using an HDMI-DVI Adapter and a Mini Display Port-DVI adapters.

MacBook Air 11" - Thunderbolt to mini-HDMI

Dear people,

Question from The Netherlands:

I bought a MacBook Air 11" and just ordered an OPTOMA Videoprojector Pico PK301. My question is: how do I connect the Thunderbolt connection to the mini-HDMI entry in the PK301? I could not find a cable for this on the internet nor in Apple's online shop.

Best regards, Marcel

I think you might need a MDP to HDMI adapter, something like this:

And then an HDMI to Mini HDMI cable, something like this:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10242&cs_id=1024201&p_id=3645&seq=1&format=2

I haven't used anything with mini HDMI before so I can't be sure that this is what you need.

MacMini Thunderbolt to HDMI

No problem to attach a second display to a Mac Mini if you have already used the HDMI port for the first.
;) Thunderbolt is compatible with MiniDisplay so I purchased a Monoprice MiniDisplayPort to HDMI, DVI & DisplayPort Adapter from MacAssist Wanaka <donald@icommunicate.co.nz>. and used it to connect a second ViewSonic VG2427 monitor through the Thunderbolt port - worked a treat! :)
