Hi everyone,

I just had a question regarding time machine restores. I got a 2012 mac mini when it was released, and then restored my old mini's files to the new one without a problem.

Fast forward to today, I made a fusion drive, and added more ram. The mac mini is working just fine, and is blazing fast now.

But when I try to restore from my time machine back ups, the mac won't mount the external hdd. I can see the drive (seagate) in disk utility, but it will not mount.

I tried repairing the volume, and it does so successfully but then just gets stuck at the following:

I doubt time machine needs the boot support partition updates, since you don't even boot from the backup drive.

The good thing is that the external drive still seems intact, but how do I go about accessing my backup?

Any tips and advice is welcome, as I'd love to not lose all my old files and apps :)

strangely enough; after 3 hours of trying various things to fix it, and literally 5 minutes after posting this thread, a screen popped up asking me if i wanted to use the connected disk as a time machine backup.

I quickly went into the migration assistant and restored from backup, thinking that maybe the hard drive would disappear again. The restore took about 2 hours, but at least I have all my files again. AND the external hard drive is still there.

I do wonder what happened though, and what could have been done to correct it?
