few months ago upgraded Itunes and have had nothing but trouble since...cannot burn some cd's...some cd's are not recognized by the mini..can play some dvd's...others cant be read....doesnt seem to be a software problem...at this point I have done a back up with all my files and would like to wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall the origional software....except...
now it wont load the install disk...grrrr....it just loads and spins a bit and then ejects....disk appears fine...I have reinstalled before...
Can I move Itunes from applications to the trash? ....or OS X? ....something tells me that something happened during the upgrade that is preventing the mini from reading the disk...If I trash some one of these apps maybe it will load the install disk so I can reboot the OS?...current Mac OS 10.4.11 ...Proc 1.42 Ghz Ppc G4 ...

I'm fairly knowledgeable about all of this...but pretty much an old guy who just knows the basics of computers...

Sounds very much like you have a bad internal combo drive. Those things are so cheap anyway. If you can get your hands on a firewire or usb external combo drive, that may be the best interim solution. Good luck.
