The little progress spinner thing below the apple just spins and spins...

The computer said that several apps stopped responding and had to quit after falling asleep watching a movie in VLC... which had error logs that had frozen on the screen as well saying, "Computer too slow?" from dropped frames apparently... Not normal. Also, yesterday, when waking it up from the display shutting down... the whole screen was gray and smeared looking... there was nothing recognizable at all on the screen, and I hit the power button quickly for it to sleep, and back again.. and it worked fine for the rest of the day.

Any ideas?

Its a 1.66 Core Duo Mac mini w/ 2gb of ram.

Thanks!

nope, no faint clicking.... just the gentle whirr of the fans and drive like normal... I tried a PMU reset... doesnt seem to do anything... Any real way to definite verify that its the HDD? I'm pretty sure im out of apple care on this machine, so I'd just replace it myself in that case...

great success! I do have applecare still. Off to the apple store to get this beast fixed. :D

Stick in the tiger or leopard DVD and press C after it chimes to boot up from the cd, that should tell you if it is the hard drive or not. I suspect it is though!

EDIT: Ah, you have warranty, best to let them do it then. Good luck!

ok, slight issue... I put the leopard disc in and held C... nothin is happening...and the keyboard doesnt seem to be working now... How can I eject the disc? I think I remember something about the Leopard disc not being able to to be bootable from a year or so ago when my hard drive failed last time... Any way to force it? I want to try my tiger disc that came with the computer...

Ok, I give up. I got it to eject the disc but it wouldnt boot from my tiger or leopard disc... Its fun to mess with it to try to get it to work... but I have a warranty still so I guess I'll save it for monday at the apple store. Thanks for the help everyone! Will report back after monday.

So glad I have a new unibody MBP to use in the meantime. :)
