Mac Mini Updates Soon?

so let them not update the mini for sometime or else im going to cry because i just bought one. And I'm loving it!
it still disgusts me that apple a few years ago sold the mini base model for 399 pounds, now they want 510
Uhh...bad exchange rates! Yeah, that's it!
Anyway, the 9400M is way better than the Intel 950. It still isn't as good as dedicated, but it does a good job with HD stuff. As far as updates...like everything else with Apple, who knows? It went almost 2 years with no update, then two in one year.

With my math, that's 7 and half months, not two years. For new GPU, we might have to wait but basically, Mini has been a headless 13" MBP so we may get a new GPU sooner.

still screwed the Brits and when it was crap they were super triple F***ed by . It's recovered about 18% since then so we have to wait and see how Apple intend reaming their special relationship buddies this time round. That's if they ever release another computer again. The entire line up is a sick joke. Can only get worse with iPad hogging expertise, focus etc. too.
What took so long was going from Intel Chipset to nVidia.

Sometimes is seems Apple just follows random pricing overseas. I've seen people around here talk about prices in the UK and elsewhere, and they are crazy. I also think Apple is too focused on the mobile market. They have become a consumer electronics company that happens to make computers.
I'm hoping for either no update soon, or an announcement RSN. I'm about to buy a Mac for a family member whose Windows PC is acting up, and the Mini seems to be the most cost effective model, since there is already a monitor. I don't want to buy it just before a new model comes out.
Don't worry, Mini won't be updated any time soon and even if it was, it wouldn't be huge, just 0.5x difference in CPU multiplier (= 130MHz faster CPU = no effect)
Not necessarily. The mini completely skipped the X3100 graphics line and was the only Mac to stay with the GMA950. It may be that the next Macbook upgrade (whenever that is) will again be only for the Macbook.
mm.. Possibly. But yea, Mini has usually had same specs as MacBook or previous generation MacBook. It won't be faster or even near the speed of iMac, that's for sure
2,53 C2D is just pure legacy technology with a hefty price tag and nothing but an insult to the customer. The mini is very nicely build and very silent, but that does not justify the legacy and extremely outdated hardware. 2,53 C2D are 5 years old now, even the Nehalem i-core-series are 1,5 years old already. The mini seems to be the slowest computer on the markets today money can buy.

The processor is pretty old, but also the hard drives on these things are modest-capacity notebook drives that run at 5400 rpm. That limits the speed of these systems beyond the aging processors. And I love that any modification takes a putty knife and voids your warranty...The mini always tempts me until I think about it a little.
The 18 months without an upgrade raised some eyebrows of Apple observers. It's just one of those flukes that Apple does every once in a while.
However, I think with the 2 regular updates in 2009 Apple pretty much decided to keep the product line and I wouldn't be surprised (and expect) an update late spring or early summer.
Btw the last update was in line with their other products (imac, macbook,) etc, so when these comps start getting bumps the Mini will as well. The small form factor computer market is becoming competitive with Dell and several other manufacturers basically showing up their own versions.
It would not be inconceivable for both those product lines to have the same graphics setup, Apple did this when the Macbook and Mini intel's were first introduced, the Mini used to be in-line with the Macbook and iBook prior to that. Just because the company has situated certain products as "predictable" for year or two does not mean that will always be the status quo.

Yeah but consumer level mobile Nehalems (Arrandale) have been around only a month. There are still millions of computers sold with C2D and why not? It's still very fast and mother boards are cheaper than LGA1156 ones. Arrandale isn't even faster than C2D as it tops out at 2.66GHz. You have no idea what you're talking about, C2Ds are not outdated.
Plus transaction from Merom to Penryn (65nm -> 45nm) which happened in January 2008 so basically, current Core 2 Duos are only 2 years old
Considering that Fujistu has launched some new ultra small PCs (the Esprimo series) where some models have blueray, eSATA, 4 GB RAM, i5 chips etc (no firewire though) I think it's time Apple would update the Mini to similar specs.
Or just lower the price of the current models, selling a desktop computer today with only 160 GB RAM, it's a joke. Make the 320 GB standard on the smallest model. But why should SJ care what I or other consumers think, he knows best....

I want to believe that the new mac mini line would be updated soon, and a reasonable update would be: core i3 cpu, 2GB RAM and 250\320GB for the low end and core i5 cpu, 4/8GB RAM and 1TB for the high end model.
As a side note, I realy hope that the mini would keep getting frequent updates, but I believe that it won't make a significant difference in sales for these reasons:
1. Even the current low end mac mini is more than enough for 75% of the users out there. The other 25% usually won't get a mac, and if they do, it would be the high end macs like i5/i7 imac or Mac Pro. Most of the forum's folks don't get it, but we are the minority, and even for a lot of people here, the mini is more than enough.
2. People buy a mac mini, because they want a mac and are willing to compromise on hardware in order to get a mac. It could be for the OS, it could be for the design, it could be for the logo...it's never for the hardware. Sadly, from Apple's point of view, this means that they should put the cheapest hardware they can get away with.
