Hello All,

I am wondering when the last time the Mac Mini configuration was updated by Apple. Just wondering if they are going to bring out a newer model?

Also how have people customised there Mac Mini's?

Terry

3rd of March was the latest update. Next update may be in early 2010 when Arrandale comes but no one knows. Last update took almost 2 years so it's impossible to say when the next one is going to be.

In current gen Mini, it's only possible to swap HD and add more RAM, because CPU and GPU are soldered to mother board. Many have added 4GB of RAM and 7200rpm drive or even SSD to make it faster.

The last upgrade took nearly two years, but it was a total redesign with more usbs, new display ports etc.

If the next upgrade is just a speed increase it could be in the next few months.

I doubt any near future upgrade would be more than that though so just buy now! ;)

Huh? The first intel mini was introduced 2/28/06 and the new model with new ports was introduced on 3/3/09. That is 3 days more than three years.

It took only 18 months to get the CPUs changed to C2D (from CS and CD).

My point was a long wait for a redesign, a short wait for speed bumps. Either way there shouldn't be too much danger of buying now.

I am going to wait till the next Mac lets release a whole load of things event. Oh wait thats the 9th September. Not long to wait then.

I believe he meant from the last update to the original design to the second design. Not beginning to beginning of the two designs. That would have been August 07 - March 09.

He specifically said "more usbs, new display ports". The Mac mini introduced in 2/2006 was identical to the 2/2009 minis and every mini in between, except for the CPU installed and firmware (and add-ins like HD, memory OS, etc).
