Mac Mini Upgrading...

Finally took the plunge and installed an SSD in my 2011 mini and WOW, what a difference.

To anyone considering it, I couldn't recommend it highly enough! Only took about 10 minutes to swap the drives physically too.

Just waiting on a data doubler kit and miniStack MAX from OWC to complete my little project.

The difference was even greater than ram upgrade.

The upgrade to SSD speed creates performance you can feel, doesn’t it? What is your final configuration going to look like Dfw? Depending on how you equip that miniStack Max, your system could become more different than it looks.

I considered a Max for my 2011, but wasn't convinced of the benefits given that you have to connect Mini and Max via USB2 to make use of anything other than the storage (although I believe if you have both USB2 and FW hooked up then data transfers default to the FW bus).

Would certainly reconsider once I own a USB3 equipped Mini.

Plan is to put the original 500GB drive back in (this currently holds my iTunes/iPhoto/VirtualBox data.

The MAX will then house my 1TB TM backup drive and the optical drive will replace my current USB external.

Basically, I'll free up some USB ports and desk space. .
