Hi,
I've been using an elderly 32-bit Mac Mini with an AOC e2343Fk 16:9 monitor via a KVM switch box for some time. With this setup, I've had to use DisplayConfigX to get it to support the monitor's 1920x1080 resolution. This worked fine for quite some time, until I had an accident that caused the system to become temporarily unbootable (I accidentally renamed the /sbin directory). When I corrected the problem, though, I found that the computer booted up with only a portion of the display being used. My monitor reports that it's being driven at the correct 1920x1080 resolution, but the actual displayed image looks like it's about a 4:3 aspect ratio, with icons and text being horizontally compressed, as if the full 1920 horizontal resolution were being compressed into 1440 pixels. The remaining horizontal resolution appears as black bars on either side of the display. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to resolve this problem -- I've disabled the extra DisplayConfigX resolutions and then re-enabled them, I've tried other resolutions (those close to correct show the same problem, although some lower resolutions seem OK), and I've repaired permissions on the disk.
So: Any suggestions of what to try next? Is the aspect ratio stored in a file somewhere that I can edit? Thanks.
Edit: Never mind; it's fixed. I tried a few more resolutions, and when I switched back, it was fine. I still don't know what caused the problem, but at least it's working now....
