Mac mini on a 42" Toshiba -

I've searched and searched with no answers, so maybe my question is VERY fundamental and i'm just not seeing it. I've recently set up my mac mini with my 42" Toshiba and it's working pretty well. However, I was expecting some way to change the sizes of everything (text, windows, menus, buttons, etc...) in a global way. Something like an option for the visually impaired that would just increase the size of everything without sacrificing the quality that comes with the high resolution.

I know you can decrease the resolution, but that's obviously not ideal. It looks really great at in highest res, I was just hoping that i might be able to read text off the screen while siting on my couch. Does anyone have any ideas besides playing with the resolution? Currently I'm using zoom and text enlargements as a temporary solution...

Thanks so much!
