Newbie here. I searched the forum and didn't see my issue. I noticed today that itunes would not play, the time cursor under the song title does not move. I also discovered that it won't play cd's or vimeo videos. It won't advance the video and no audio.

Late 09 mini. Thanks

Have you tried rebooting?

As for youtube, I've found it hasn't been working for me on my MacBook in Safari recently (I haven't checked on my late 09 Mini yet, but may be able to do so this evening). Try another web browser e.g. Firefox.

My Mac mini worked fine out of the box, so I don't know why yours didn't...

first question any updates? next question when did it last work? third question if it ran fine and you did no software updates did you add anything to your system? by anything any plugin device or any wireless device.

The system worked fine the day before. It played itunes library, vimeo. utube. the system is set for auto updates. there are no output devices in preferences? I am using the sub and speakers from my old pc. What is weird is that nothing advances, music, video etc. you can see vimeo loading but it never starts to play. you can manually advance the video but no sound. Same thing with itunes you can manually advance the the song but it never starts to play.

This is a "recycled" mini from a friend. This is my first mac. No apple care.

audio midi setup says no devices??? what happened?

I didn't change a thing from the day before.

I'm no computer wiz by any stretch.

Take it easy on me. I have been traumatized by years of wrestling with a PC.

I assume, since it worked yesterday, that the 1/8" cable was plugged into the back of the Mini yesterday. Is it possible it came out somehow?

Although there is also an internal speaker that should work without anything plugged in too.

When you reboot, do you hear a startup 'tone'?

I hear the startup tone, i plugged and unplugged the speaker jack a couple of times.

itunes shows the song that is selected but the song won't start. same thing with vimeo, it shows the video loading but it won't start. itunes shows the cd i put in and you can select any song and it won't start.

I fixed it!!

leave it to a mechanic. I opened up the mini and found that the power ribbon had come off the hard drive. solved!!

Thanks to all who helped.

I still hate computers!!!!!
