I just got a used Mac Mini (1.42ghz bought in 05) from a friend because she got a new computer. Took it home, plugged it in and hit the power button. After hearing the startup chime it shutoff completely. Now it will not turn on at all, no lights, no startup chime, no noises. I tried unplugging it for awhile and plugging it back in. I also tried doing the pram reset.... nothing. Is there anything I'm missing that could prevent this computer from turning on? Any help would be appreciated.

could be a lot of things. Make sure the power brick is connected secure and that it's providing power to the mini.
I've tried three different outlets (all had other stuff plugged in that was working just fine). I've unplugged both the power cord from the brick and plugged it back in to make sure it was tight as well as the power cord out of the back of the computer many times. It definitely is getting power (assuming the brick is good).
I would find out why your friend got a new computer. 
Most likely it didn't work before. If you do not succeed in resetting the SMC then you may have a dead machine. You can take it into Apple where they'll take a look at it, but it does sound like it's dead.

Its The power brick it died the clock battery wouldent cause it to crash like that try and go to frys and get a new power brick
