I am seriously considering a Mac Mini for my desktop. MacRumors Buyer's Guide rates the Mini as a 'Do Not Buy, Upgrades Soon,' but I was wondering, but I was curious as to if anyone had heard rumblings of updates for the Minis that may be coming soon.

If so, what time frame?

Probably Paris.. late september. Then again if previous trends are worth anything Minis go by a yearly upgrade cycle...

You can never ever win with computers! I say wait a month or so (if you want) I couldn't be bothered and just jumped in. You wouldn't think it would be a gigantically massive upgrade anyway.

one year with a mini...

About a year ago, I walked into compusa, desperate to find some solutions for all the windows OS problems I was having on my three office computers. One damn thing after another. So, I told the compusa guy I was going to kill myself, in the store, if they did not find a solution to my problems... the brave sales person, sent me to the apple corner (evidently afraid I would do the deed in his department...) I was not interested in a mac, did not know much about them, had a basic feeling that they must be a little kinky. The nice young kid in the apple corner was enthusiastic and knowledgable. but I was skeptical. So I did some reading, learned a little, gulped and pulled the trigger on a 1.42 mini. I did have some problems networking to the remaining windows machines, and eventually gave up on that idea (it was no doubt solvable... but I couldn't figure it out....) Bought a B&W G3 on ebay, had no problems getting it networked. Long story short... I am very satisfied with my mini, G3 and (earlier this year) ibook 1.33. These things are very stable. I love the operating system, everything is so nicely integrated. Based on my current experiences, I doubt I will ever by a windows machine again. It is so nice not to worry about viruses, and various other corruptions in those machines. I did buy MS Office for mac which works well. One weird thing, apparently with all macs running MS Office for mac: two networked macs can open the same document, do work in the file, unbeknownst to the other... and whoever saves last wins... the changes the other computer makes to the document are simply lost... (any ideas??)

I am now considering getting an intel mac, as there are a few windows issues that the mac can't handle... such as some legal transcript viewers like .ptx. So the abiiity to run those at times would be nice. I would also like to be able use two monitors, in an extended desktop setup... anybody know if the new intel mini will do that?

that's just my $.02.
