Mac Mini's noisy after Ram Upgrade.

Hey Guys

My brother has 1.83 Ghz CD2 Mac Mini, which he got the ram upgraded with crucial memory at a local computer repair shop.

After getting it back, he booted it up and as soon as the computer starts, the fan kicks in and makes a hell of a racket. Did they not connect anything they needed too?

Any help?

Have you tried an SMC reset yet?

Have a look at Activity Monitor (Applications / Utilities /) and select All Processes and sort by CPU to see what the culprit may be.
Also check the "System Memory" tab to see what your "Page ins:", "Page outs:" and "Swap used:" are.

He may not reconnected the temperature sensor correctly and Mini is in a fail safe mode. Disassemble it and make sure everything is connected correctly.
 
There's no need to remove the fan to upgrade the RAM, so that's quite odd.

Just to cover all the bases, make sure the round black access cover that the Mini sits on is fully rotated into its locked position (aligning the two solid dots).

It's surprising how much resonance the plate can suffer if not snugly locked in place.

The OP does not have the Unibody Mac mini with that round bottom.

no that is not correct that is the 2009 mini he has one model older

I meant, the removal of the fan being the case, but either way you misread but you're still right. I knew the guide was wrong, I just meant that as a point of reference for the poster who said something about a black door and what not.

I thought that but was not sure. That is the problem with forums you can only type so much without being long winded and sometimes we misunderstand one another. It is cool and you are right about the black bottom 2010 mini or 2011 mini it does not apply here.

Yep! That was it. Thanks very much - I just had to reconnect the temperature sensor and the MacMini is as quiet as a mouse.:)
