Hi, newcomer here wondering if any one has paid for a subscription the the .mac service and what the general consensus on the service was. I'm pretty much just interested in the email service so it seems like it's an awful lot of money just for that purpose or maybe it has more benefits I'm not aware of that make it worth it. So what do you think guys?

For email alone, it's not worth it. There's no real spam filtering, capacity isn't that big (at least for price), and web-based email lacks many features found on freebie services. Get gmail or something.

.Mac is really all about syncing. Having your address book, calendar, bookmarks, important backup data, etc. on the web with super tight integration with Mac OS X. If that does not appeal to you much, there are better (at least cheaper) alternatives.

for some people its worthwhile, for others no. plenty of threads on the topic already though.

I really enjoy .Mac, but I use it mainly for iDisk and HomePage and the integration it has with the OS and many apps. I actually don't use the email feature much at all. If you're considering .Mac solely for the email component, but I'd say it's not worth your money, sign up for Gmail or something. But if you're interested in the other features it offers, then I definitely do recommend .Mac.

I bought it a few days ago to keep my two Macs synced and I love it for that very reason. I'd like to see a price drop though. Plus, the servers can slow down a bit. :(

Ok guys, thanks for the replys and the help. Was going to open a Gmail account but cannot do it here in the UK without an invite apparently. Oh well, will look for an alternative. Thanks.
